Exodus 6:1

Then the Lord said to Moses, now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh: because of my mighty hand he will let them go, because of my mighty hand he will drive them out of his country.

At the start of the Exodus story Moses was worried. The Lord had commanded Moses to tell Pharaoh to "let my people go", but Pharaoh laughed and commanded Israel to make bricks without being given any straw. Moses does not know how the story will end and cannot see how the might of Egypt can be overcome.

Moses sees time as a mortal human does, as a journey that reveals itself only as you walk along the long road. Moses did not see how it would end and could not imagine that it would end well for Israel. Moses did not understand how mighty His hand was because the Plagues of Egypt were not yet revealed.

But God sees time as a whole. The Lord knows how it will end. He knew that the Passover Story would be told throughout the centuries and would help bring all the Nations to Him. The King knew each of us before we were born and will welcome us Home, soon and very soon.

The Lord gave Israel the Law knowing that the Law would not save them. He promised redemption, although the means of redemption was still hidden. God knew that Pharaoh would relent and that Egypt would be destroyed.

Today, as we walk on a Lenten journey, we cannot know everything that this World will throw at us. But we do know that the mighty Hands will welcome us. The Lord, who holds stars in His pockets like grains of sand, has redeemed us. Sin does not have to command us. We, all of us, can go Home.
