The Lilies of the Field
Tuesday, April 11: Consider the
lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, 29yet
I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. 30But
if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is
thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31Therefore
do not worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What
will we wear?’
Matthew 6:28-31
On my way to middle school, I’m in the seventh grade, I always find it amusing that people walking their dogs almost always look sad but their dogs almost always look happy. What are the people thinking about that makes them seem so unhappy?
I’m not sure I understand why some people have three or even more than three houses when other people don’t even have one home at all. It disturbs me that there are people with so much, but there are also people that work in sweatshops their entire lives just to make lavish gym socks. People seem to worry so much about things and so little about people.
It seems like women always wear makeup to make themselves look nicer while men never wear anything and they look just fine anyway. It’s the person that you should care about and not what color their lips are.
Once, I heard a little boy worrying about something. A few moments later, his mother told him that there was no point in worrying because what happens, happens. Try to do what you can, but know that someone is watching over you.
Mr. Anderssen was a man that I knew. Last Thursday he had a stroke and died. At his wake, I saw his son and he was very sad. I was also sad for him. But I was very happy for Mr. Anderssen, because he had so many worries and now they were over. And he would be with his wife and God forever. Lately, he seemed to be in so much pain, but when I saw him in his casket, he seemed to have a smile on his face.
If I could have said something else to his son, I would tell him not to worry. I would tell him that the lilies of the field don’t worry and God would care for him no matter what.
Dear Lord, please help us to be like the lilies of the field and not have any worries. Also, help us to be as much like you as we can everyday. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
