I Want?

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

-- Psalm 23:1

Over the past 6 months I have learned a lot about the Lord being my shepherd. In this particular verse it says that because the Lord is our shepherd we shall not want. In today’s society it seems that everything is I want, I want, I want. You hear those words everywhere you go. Children say they want a particular toy, teenagers say they want freedom; adults say they want a day off. Everybody wants something but shouldn't being a Christian and knowing God is your savior be enough for anyone.

We always want more than what we have, but do we really need more. According to God, He gives us everything we need. God will always provide what we need and more than likely what we want. If He doesn't provide everything we want than perhaps it is something we should not be wanting at all. We are always searching for something more but when you get down to it if we believe in God the Father creator of all we truly have all we should ever want.

When God said we shall not be in want I don't think He was talking about material items, I think He was referring to our spiritual lives. God has given us and continues to give us everything we could ever ask for in our spiritual lives. We have our bibles, we have prayers, we have church and so much more. With all of these things provided by God we should never be in want. If we want to know more, we have all the resources to turn to and find out more.

When it comes to material items God does provide for us but it is the spiritual aspects of our lives that we should never feel want. God will always provide that for us.

Dear Lord help us to find all we need and want in You. You are our Creator and Father and because we know You and believe in You we shall never want. You will always provide everything we want and need and we thank You for that. Amen.
