A Light To Find Your Way

I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.

-- Acts 13:47

February 10th and 11th I attended a training course in Washington D.C. Instead of spending two nights alone in a hotel, I was fortunate to spend Wednesday and Thursday nights with good friends who live in northern Virginia.

On the first day I took the Metro in order to avoid the hassles of commuting. On Friday I was going to drive into the city so that I could leave after class and travel home. Thursday night my friends spent about 20 minutes explaining how to get from their home to the training site in downtown D.C. They downloaded maps from the internet, wrote detailed instructions, and explained all the land marks I would see along the way.

They took the time because they didn't want me to get lost. Their instructions were very clear.

Unfortunately I exited onto Georgetown Pike instead of taking the exit for the George Washington Parkway - so close!!!! I thought about turning around and getting back onto the highway. I heard a voice inside of me telling me "keep going, you'll find your way". Over the years I've learned to trust the voice inside. I have learned that it was usually right. I came to a traffic light, turned left and found myself back on the right road. I found my way downtown, and arrived on-time!!!!!

I believe that it was God guiding me when I was lost. It wasn't just a voice in my head, it was the Lord who is in my life. Who guides your life? Who do you trust to give you advise when you don't know the answers. Who gives you direction when you are lost? Remember - Jesus is the light for all of us. He is the beacon of light that shines during our uncertain times and helps us to find the way, because He is The Way.

Lord, during this time of Lent may we turn to you and realize that you are the light that shines in the darkness and guides us in our lives. May we may shine like you and be a light to others. Amen
